XTRA4 is a sterile, dextran-free hypothermic corneal storage medium designed for preservation of donor corneas at 2-8°C for up to 14 days.

Formulation
Components

Deswelling Agent Controls corneal thickness by maintaining proper hydration balance. This proprietary component replaces dextran, eliminating concerns about tissue uptake while providing superior thickness control.

Minimum Essential Medium (MEM) Provides buffering capacity to maintain stable pH throughout the storage period, supporting normal cellular metabolism.

Sodium Bicarbonate Works synergistically with MEM for pH adjustment and stabilization within the physiological range.
Sodium Pyruvate Serves as an energy source and ATP precursor, supporting endothelial cell viability throughout storage. This component is critical for maintaining the metabolic functions necessary for corneal preservation.

Antimicrobial Protection

Streptomycin Sulfate: Broad-spectrum antibiotic providing gram-positive and gram-negative coverage
Gentamicin Sulfate: Additional aminoglycoside antibiotic ensuring comprehensive microbial protection
Purified Water meeting stringent purity standards.
